If you have any burning questions, feel free to CONTACT OLIVER Q: How did you get started in the entertainment business? I had always dreamed of being an actor, but acting was not considered a profession of choice in the environment that I was brought up in. I did however get the opportunity to go motor racing. As I was one of the very few drivers from Hong Kong to excel in International motor sports, I received a great deal of press coverage. I did a lot of work for the sports channel, and when I was back in Hong Kong looking for sponsors, the station thought that I looked really natural on camera and that I would be perfect for the hosting position on Zap Rap, a teenage magazine show. I auditioned for the position, and they offered me the part before I could finish the last line! I was also doing a lot of commercial work at the time as the Eurasian look has always been in demand in Asia, and growing rapidly in North America. (UP) Q: What is your Eurasian mix? My mother is Scandinavian, and my father is Chinese. (UP) Q: Where did you grow up? I was born in Hong Kong, and later went to school in the U.K. After I finished my law degree I eventually moved back to Hong Kong, and now I live in North America. (UP) Q: How did you make the transition from television to film? It was a natural career progression as my popularity quickly grew. I met film director Alfred Cheung, who offered me the lead role in his action comedy, 'Her Fatal Ways'. Not unlike Hollywood today, it was not uncommon for actors to crossover from television into film, or from music to film. (UP) Q: Tell us about your music career. I trained with a wonderful opera singer from China, and later hooked up with The Media Banks Studio. It was extremely hard work, but it was a lot of fun working with professionals like the Swaine Brothers. One of the highlights of our relationship was shooting the music video for my "Brown Eyed Girl" single in Jamaica. (UP) Q: What was it like working with Jet Li in the block buster movie "Romeo Must Die"? Jet is amazing at what he does. He is a really easy going star, and coming from Hong Kong created a common bond between us that made working together a delight. I also knew some his stunt men whom I had worked with in Hong Kong. (UP) Q: Did you get to talk to Joel Silver about "The Matrix"? (Laughter) No, Jet and I spent time with Joel polishing up our scene. We were all so busy concentrating on the job at hand that there was no time for casual socializing. (UP) Q: "Romeo Must Die" was director Andrzej Bartkowiak's directorial debut, what was he like? Andrzej is one of the nicest people I know. He was easy to work with, and was always grateful for everyones efforts. (UP) If you have any burning questions, feel free to CONTACT OLIVER |
